Baby’s First Trip to NYC! NYC is baby friendly!

When the baby was 7 days old, I brought her to Grand Luxe Cafe. Go ahead, judge me. Every Mom has something to say about it. Each baby has a different personality and mine just happens to be extremely curious! She’s much happier when we’re out and about people-watching than stuck in the house watching paint dry. Going out makes me nervous and it does require effort (packing bags, diapers, etc). But I don’t believe you should stop living life because of a baby (for the sanity of both). The first month after having her, if you offered to let me live locked in and order everything online forever…I would have obliged. But…if you never break out of your shell, you will do more harm. Fast-forward to four months later, and I decided to take her on her first trip to NYC. I could do an entire blog post on what my fears were! Let’s see…the drive there/other drivers on the road (esp road raged trucks, drunk drivers, pilled up drivers, people on cell phones, teen drivers, tailgaters, indecisive lane switchers…old people…), the subway (the random crackhead mean mygging, homeless, mentally disturbed folks, drug addicts, the smell of pee, cat sized rats, maneuvering a stroller, ladies staring/wanting to touch the baby, weirdos staring/anybody staring, germs, germ infested human beings and ohh..uhh..germs..), crossing/maneuvering the street with a stroller, crowds, rude people running into us, a terential downpour, not having enough bottles, not pumping for a few hours, her being too cold, being too hot, cars driving through cross walks like they’re in the Indy 500…*sigh*. I easily turn into what I like to call “The Mom Police.” A very sophisticated strict regime that rules out of fear. When I tell people casually that I’m taking her to NYC the “omg” reactions follow. It’s clear I’m a paranoid Mom, I have a million “what if” scenarios played out in my mind…but sometimes you have to just breathe. I’ve found that if you’re frazzled, rushing and high strung…any experience will be a bad one. Whether going to a grocery store 5 mins away or a big city trip. Preparing in advance is key (I packed her bags a week before). And staying calm, being very present for your baby. I have been on duty as “Mom Police” 24/7 since 1/4/14 and you never stop worrying!

I’m sharing with you my baby’s first big trip to the big apple. To my surprise, she did amazing! The biggest problem is that now she gets bored in the house! She wants people watching, entertainment and activities. She might just be a city girl.
